Everybody Poops the Movie?!?!?!

Song of the Day

Rich Girls - The Virgins

Found this song last night, love it, love the beats, guitar riffs and his voice
Just seems like a fun song to me.

Common Courtesy

My rant of the morning goes something like this:

One of my biggest pet peeves is when I hold the door open for someone and they don't say thank you. It drives me absolutely insane. It blows my mind that someone can be so rude and not say a simple, Thanks. I could have easily let the door close in your face but I didn't because I am a nice person. I just don't get it.

Perhaps its the way I was raised, we were told that you always say Please and Thank you for even the smallest thing so when someone doesn't I go nuts.

It's actually gotten to the point that when someone doesn't say thank you I say "Your Welcome" loud enough for them to hear me, the people around to hear and so they feel uncomfortable about their rudeness...simple as that.

My second rant of the morning and I promise this is the last one.
This goes out to the indoor sunglass wearing people who think we can't see their eyes and because of this its OK to stare. Well, its not OK, its rude.
While I was on the train this morning, reading my book, listening to some new tunes I just got when I couldn't help but notice the woman to my right staring. I am pretty sure she thought I couldn't see her eyes so that didn't stop her. When I would look at her I could see her eyes, she was looking right at me. I am not wearing anything provocative because that's just not my style, so it couldn't be that then I thought perhaps something was on my face..nope not it. She just kept staring...maybe she was blown away at my beauty...yeah that's it.

Soundtrack to Your Life

If you could have a soundtrack to your life, what would be on it?
I love asking this question because it's not one that can be answered right away, its one to ponder on.

Are you pondering?

I've pondered...for me I find this to be a huge challenge because music has always been apart of my life. I remember when Melissa and I got a radio in our room and we would be listening to Z100 and every time we heard a song we liked we would record it on the tape that was in there...Music was and still is always playing in our house in Brewster and for me here at work, I find myself listening to everything.

So I am going to throw out a few songs on the Life of Katie Henry Soundtrack.

Dirty Dancing - 1987

Song #1
"Time of my life" - from Dirty Dancing

I mean, when this movie came out I am pretty sure everyone in my age group were still watching Disney Movies but no, not us, we were watching closely at all the dance moves and practicing them at LMCA when we took a break from swimming. At home Melissa and I used to run down the hallway into my dad's arms and he would do the lift with us...Oh man memories like that makes me wish I never grew up.

The Bodyguard - 1992
Whitney Houston was one of my favorite singers out there when I was younger, Pre Bobby Brown years. I used to listen o the Bodyguard Sountrack all the time and I am pretty sure melissa and Jean-Marie can back me up that we have a few dances made up to some

Song #2
I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston

Song #3
Flake - Jack Johnson - 2000

As I wrote last week JJ entered my life freshman year in college...I fell in love with him in Burlington VT when I saw him open for Ben Harper with my brothers...the first time we heard the steal drums we were hooked like a crack head...did I just say that?

That's all I have for today.
Told you it wasn't easy

Billy gets Baptized!!

On Saturday William Michael Brown was baptized.

He was such a good little boy all afternoon but I'm not sure who was more upset about him wearing a dress, him or Pat. Regardless he looked handsome and the dress stayed on for about an hour.

Chris and I became the proud god parents of this little bugger and it couldn't have made me happier. I got to spend a lot of time with him this weekend, I changed 2 Poop diapers so if that doesn't make me a great Aunt I don't know what does. Actually, I don't mind changing him, it's quality time together, he is so happy when his diaper is changed and that's when he really giggles. Sometimes I think he's laughing because I'm the one wiping his a*s or he is about to pee on me...one or the other.

Over all it was a beautiful weekend, lots of family time!

Song of the Day

This weather makes me one happy camper (even if I am at work) so in the spirit of the bright sun and warm weather I am listening to my man, Jack Johnson.

"Flake" to be exact

This song started off my love affair with Jack back in 2000, freshman year of college when I went to see Ben Harper with my brothers in Burlington, VT. Jack opened for him and we were more into Jack than we were Ben Harper. After that night he soon became the family favorite who never seems to disappoint.

Tumblr

Hey, I posted some new pics on my Tumblr....Check it out, become a follower!!!

Took a trip to the good old Bronx zoo a couple of weekends ago on a somewhat warm day and snapped away...these are just a few. I plan on hitting that place up again soon because not all the animals were out, not even the polar bears in he 40 degree weather. Weird...I shall return and photograph more.

Those of you who have kids, bring them to the ZOO!! It's so great and I would gladly come along to document it. Kids reactions to animals are amazing and priceless, I look forward to the day when I take my nephew Billy there.

Administrative Professionals Day

Today was no ordinary day here at work, nope, not like everyday, today was special. You know why? Because I got presents. Nope, its not my birthday, not my anniversary here, definitely didn't get a raise (we are in a recession, I wasn't expecting one)

It's Administrative Professionals Day!!

Who would have thought, being the low man on the totem pole, you would get a special day for yourself. I still had to do work all day but I got some great gifts from a few people in my group. They were on point with there gestures of saying Thanks.

My amazing boss got me a gift certificate to The Smoothie King, my new favorite place right next to our building, clearly he pays attention and I love it.

Got a Starbucks card

Another gentleman in my group got me a bottle of Pinot Noir, my favorite red wine. The only thing that scares me about this is that I have a wine opener in my desk drawer (don't ask why) but I do. You just never know when your going to need it.

So I'll get my healthy fix during the day and drink some vino by night.
Sounds about right.

Anyways, if you have an assistant, don't forget to say thanks to him or her. It's not an easy job all the time and its nice to know we get one day out of the year.

A little Dentist humor

I love this...

Kai Nation

In showing my support to our local advocates in not only improving our country but our world as a whole.

Kate Moran, a friend of mine, started up this website to raise awareness after a life changing experience in South Africa.

excerpt from website:

Taken from a South African expression, the word Kai means beautiful and we believe that although our beautiful world is made up of many different nations, by uniting together as one nation, we can achieve so much more. So, with your help our mission is to work towards a more beautiful Nation by uniting as one.

New Love for the Old School

I have fallen in love with Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac at the ripe age of 26.

This is one rare yet amazing clip of Stevie before a show, which just proves how truly talented she is and how so many of the artists today could not even compete with her talent.

If you were a celebrity...

Would you give money to another country and not the United States?

I just got a forward from a friend of mine and noticed it was something I had never really thought about till now.

The email went something like this, Oscar winner Denzel Washington visited Brooks Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas where troops are sent from Germany to the United States to receive medical treatment. They have housing around he hospital that family members can stay in while the wounded recover for little or no cost. Denzel asked how much it cost to build a housing unit for the families, he was told and removed his check book and wrote a check for the exact amount right there.

Now why is it that the only time we hear about celebrities giving back, its to another country?

I am by no means against giving to other countries but I just don't understand why more is not done in the U.S. as well.

Trying to stay young by playing a sport of my youth

In the past couple of months, I have started to play field hockey again. Through the connection of good old Facebook I reconnected with a friend of mine from high school who I used to play against (Brewster vs. Lakeland), I played with her in the off season and proceeded to play against in college. On the off season we played a lot together, in Futures, Empire States and other Indoor tournaments our coaches asked us to play in.

So a couple of weeks ago she contacted me asking if I was interested in playing in the spring league and to be honest, I have been really getting an itch to start playing again. After college I was pretty burnt out. I played all year round since I was in 8th grade so it was time for a break after college. Being that I graduated 5 years ago (holy crap) I was really starting to want to play again, never thought that day would come.

In the past couple of weeks I have fallen in love with it all over again, I really have a great time playing, it feels good to be out there on a team and getting a good work out. I'm not one who loves the gym and I have always loved team sports so this is a great way to get some of my exercise in.

One thing that I have learned since I began playing again is that I don't bounce back from soreness the way I used to and I do not miss TURF BURN!!!

Besides that I am truly happy to be playing again, as cheesy as that may sound.

5K Fans

Being the supportive friend that I am, I woke up bright and early to support my crew of Woodlawn in a 5K race in Pearl River this weekend. There was such a great energy in the crowd, it was a beautiful day, hot dogs and burgers were being fired up and of course it wouldn't be a race if there wasn't some Bud Light's at the finish line for these runners. Me, being more of an active sport runner as opposed to distance runner, I gladly waited at the finish line with Mr. Fahy, Kelly and Paddy for the crew to make its way back to us. It was excited seeing your friends push past the pain and exhaustion for this Memorial Run.

After a great run the Beers were flowing like water, hamburgers never tasted so good and the exhaustion was overlooked by excitement of the race being over, enough about me, I can only imagine what the runners felt like.

In order of finish, Brian Malone, Jackie Roberto (not Pictured, Sorry!), Maureen Fahy, Katie Malone and Katie Neary. Well done my friends...

Central Park

In the 26 years of my life I have never walked around Central Park till today. I was lucky enough to have been asked to walk around the city and take pictures. How great is that? Who could say no to that? Anyways, the weather is in the mid 60's and only a few clouds in the sky. I took the subway up to 86th St and entered the park. Being that I have never really spent time in CP I didn't really know what direction I wanted go so I started walking North. I found myself walking along the reservoir and was quickly overwhelmed with the amount of people running at this time of day. Don't they work? Is this the way they spend there lunch breaks? If so, kudos to them...

My assignment was to take photos of places where people should be but aren't. At first I thought this was impossible to find empty spots for this in Central Park on a beautiful day but surprisingly enough I found some areas.

Anyways here are some shots I took for pure beauty...

Song of the Day

"Boy with a Coin"
Iron and Wine

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMAZING!!

If you offer, they will come

Listen, we're in a recession, if you're advertising on Tax Day that you will be offering a free sandwich with a purchase of a drink, you bet your a*s people will come. America loves free stuff. The line was down the block with people waiting to grab a healthy sandwich from the Energy Kitchen.
Now if only the Apple Store would offer free stuff with a simple purchase of a $10 Itunes card.
Hey, a girl can dream

Where are you Spring??

Just took a stroll down to Union Square for work, yes work and found myself walking through the farmers market and snapped these photos. Even on a gloomy day these brighten my day.

Easter has come and gone

Another year down for the Easter bunny and I must say...Job Well Done!!

This year has been a big year for the Henry/Brown family, we have a new member so each holiday has become a landmark holiday for not only him but for us too. For so many years its just been us, brothers and sisters coming home and spending some time together with mom and dad, now we have this little baby who we can't stop staring at. He brings a whole new life to our family. For me personally I never thought I could love something this much. Every time I see him or just a picture of him I smile from ear to ear. I mean, Don't you?

Billy enjoyed his first Easter with the family, he met a bunch of his 2nd cousins at Grandma and Grandpa's house in Brewster. I believe the total was 11 kids, give or take. Needless to say Billy held his composure during the madness, a few whimpers here and there but sometimes you just have to cry at that age to let people know you have a full diaper or that your belly is empty...as you can see the smiles out weighed the tears.

One thing that has really blown me away is how great my sister is at being a mother. It's wild to think that not too long we were planning her wedding day and now she has this amazing little boy and she just fits the mold of a great mother. Pat too is an amazing Dad, Billy lights up when he sees him. They are doing an incredible job with Billy and I look forward to watching him grow...I hope you do too because he is going to be all over this blog.

Easter morning, he was very excited about what he got in his Easter Basket, some clothes, a Book and a little bunny that makes noises.

All and all this kid is set for life!!

Sheryl Crow Crashed The Party

Just another ordinary night out to dinner and of course Sheryl Crow crashed the party...

Kidding she was amazing!!! Love her!!!

Music

Pandora.com

Its the best website for listening to your favorite genre of music and finding more music you didn't know about...you make a play list by typing in one of your favorite artists and it matches up with artists and bands in that same Genre that you may not have known anything about.

Being the music lover that I am, I find this to be heaven for me.

My radio Stations:

Otis Redding - he's amazing, his voice calms me and he is an all time classic

Adele - if you don't know her, you better educate yourself, she has one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard. I fell in love with her last year, her music is timeless.

Ray LaMontagne
- His soothing voice isn't something you would listen to before a work out but definitely one who calms you down after a long day at work, relaxes you, soothes you.

Jack Johnson -
been a fan of this man for a really long time now and he is the ideal man for just chilling, relaxing and brings that California warmth into the New York winter months.

Jay Z
- Enough Said

Tim McGraw
- My all time favorite country singer out there!!! From him I learned the amazing genre of music I never thought I would fall madly in love with - Country

Fleetwood Mac
- Classic, Timelesss...I just resently started listening to them more and I do lve Stevie Nicks voice.

Tegan and Sara
- I fell in love with these ladies in college (2000) and have been following them since then...Girl rock is the way to go, especially road trips, alone, playing the drums on the steering wheel, windows down, singing out loud...amazing

As you can tell, I am a fan of it all, actually I lied, I cannot stand MUSICALS.

If you were to look at my itunes you would see an eclectic range of music...I think that says a lot about a person.

Picture of the Morning

My little nephew Billy loves to send me Picture messages when he's in a good mood so here's what I got yesterday...he is the most handsome baby I have ever seen.

Snow in April??

OK so I don't have a window view at work, haven't received the corner office yet but I do sit right outside of one and I couldn't help but notice SNOW. Yes, Snow. This is ridiculous...April fools day was last week, right??

I think I will refrain from looking outside for the rest of the morning.
I love snow and I love my seasons but enough is enough man...

ok blue sky now

Rainy Friday

Waking up this morning after a night at the Rambling House is not something I was happy about...not hung over, although I can't speak for Maureen on that one, just really tired.

I mean, who doesn't want to stay home from work, watch a movie and take a couple of naps on a cold rainy day?!?!

Every day is a winding road...

This will be my first post in the blog world and let me tell you its going to be a good one...I hope!

Yesterday was a good friend of mines birthday and as good friends do, we went out to dinner to celebrate. We went to this really cute Italian restaurant Bianca's in the LES. Being that it was small and there were 11 of us I didn't know what to expect. Well when we got there, there was a long table right in the front with only one opening...I naturally grabbed the corner seat that would trap me in there till the end of the meal, if I had to use the rest room, I was sh*t out of luck. When I first sat down I was like "wait, no body puts Katie in the corner" it was too late, people were following my lead, trapping me in the corner. Well what I thought was going to be a bad seat ended up being the best seat in the house. As I got comfortable in my little corner, Kelly to my right and Trish and Kat in front of me I began to observe the place, scope out the scene...turns out we were in the company of 2 yes 2 celebrities...Laura Dern, (Jurassic Park, Mask are a few movies) I know her as the wife of musician Ben Harper. I noticed her first and my mind was naturally distracted by this. I am by no means a crazy person who would make a scene about seeing a celeb but I thought it was pretty cool. So as I am sitting there I soon realize that she is dining with Sheryl Crow. Wow. I got excited over it because she is pretty amazing, I have been a fan of hers for a while, I def bought her first album and I am pretty sure she inspired me to play the guitar. That inspiration slowly slipped through my fingers but I got a guitar out of it.

So as the night moves on, I still find myself intrigued in their conversation, their mannerisms, wishing I could hear their convo...ok this sounds stalkerish...but I was consumed by it. Randomly updating Facebook which is so rude to do while out to dinner...my apologies on that but thought I should spread the word.

Desert time and the waiter brings a piece of cake with a candle in it. We begin to sing and LD and SC put there forks down, I put my wine glass down and we all began to sing. The song ends and we all clap including our new famous friends...Sheryl taps my friend Rishi on the shoulder and wished him a happy birthday!!! She was sooo sweet!!

Before we left another conversation was sparked up by her, Rishi and her discussed Texas and how she loves it there. Perhaps she's still in love with Lance?!?! Kidding. Or am I???

We went outside and all parted ways but not without expressing our happiness of meeting one of the coolest celebs out there.

Cheers to Sheryl Crow and Laura Dern.

Picture to come tomorrow
