Mat Kearney

Last night Kelly and I went and saw Mat Kearney in concert. It was a small venue which I prefer for concerts because it feels more real to be there.
To see the performers eyes, to see the sweat drip off his forehead, the perfect lighting, the feeling of the bass against your chest, there is just nothing like it.

Not many people know about Mat Kearney or have even heard of him but I have to say I have been a fan for a couple of years now. I can't recall the first time I heard him but I do know it was love at first listen. His voice is very distinctive and his songs have the strange way of reading your mind. His performance was perfect, he had great energy (even if some of his songs are slower) he connects with the crowd, that is something I really loved about last night.

So if you've never heard him before check out the list below, these are some of the songs he played last night.

Whip It!

Looking forward to seeing this.

Big fan of roller derby, you ask? After this I'm sure I will be. To be honest I didn't think it still existed until this clip.

Am I a dork?
Yes...yes I am.

Rebel without a Cause

A South African ad, featuring a James Dean-lookalike living a "long and wholesome life," is being hailed as an instant classic. The short video—created for an investment agency—ends with the line: "Given more time, imagine the possibilities." Jezebel

I thought this was pretty great ad

Billy met his match

This weekend I went out to dinner with my sister, her son Billy and Chris to one of our favorite restaurants in Brewster, NY, Fiesta Mexicana.

While waiting for our food Billy was reaching for the lime that was on one of our drinks so we figured, why not let him try it and see what his reaction is.

Take a look.

Gets me every time...

R.I.P. Patrick Swayze

Well we have lost yet another.
Patrick Swayze is gone after a short 57 years on this earth.

He was a man who graced our television screens as many different characters but a few that stand out for me are,

Dalton in Roadhouse,1989
"It's my way or the Highway"

Sam Wheat in Ghost

Bohdi in Point Break, Jed in Red Dawn, Darrel Curtis in The Outsiders but more importantly he was the one and only Johnny Castle in Dirty Dancing.

Dirty Dancing was and still is my ALL TIME favorite movie. Melissa and I could most likely narrate the entire movie and that is no exaggeration. My dad used to do the lift with us in the living room, come to think of it the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack was the first CD the Henry Household owned. We also used to know all the dance moves, probably still do.

So being that Youtube won't allow me to post videos of Dirty Dancing I will give you a few to watch and enjoy.

A fellow fan and best friend of mine Maureen was a fan of him as well and has this to say:

"Patrick Swayze, was more to me then being best known as Johnny Castle, but he was a man that showed great strength and courage in his last days of a tough battle. He gave fellow cancer patients hope and a sense of determination. He fought the fight with great pride, but unfortunately he had nothing left to give. I truly believe he may now rest his eyes a little easier knowing he really did have, the time of his life. One day there will be a cure, and the unknown roots of its evilness will be vanished forever."

Army Crawl

Billy Boy is growing up and growing up fast.
The little man is starting to do some army crawling around the house and getting faster and faster. In true Henry form, he is a fan of Coors light, hopefully he likes the silver can and not the way it tastes (not yet anyways).
Melissa has her hands full with this guy.

He is he cutest baby EVER. You all know it's true!!

VMA Magic

Instead of harboring on the stupid crap that happened last night on the VMA's, I think we should point out some of the cool performances.

Lady GaGa - Weird but she does have a great voice and she is quite the performer.

Pink - I can't say enough about her, I have been a fan of hers since day one. Her performance was different yet it suited her.

Beyonce - I have a love/hate relationship with her but after last nights performance, I am a fan.

Most of all, I love me some Jay-Z, always have, always will and last night he had a great performance with Alicia Keys..."Empire State of Mind" off his new album The Blueprint 3
