Summer Reading

I am going to be honest here, I never did my summer reading all through middle school and high school, I am not going to deny that but lately I am reading like crazy.

Nope, no one is holding a gun to my head and shockingly enough, no one is paying me to read their books, I actually went to Barnes & Noble and purchased these bad boys. Thanks to me at least 3 employees got their bonuses.

I have been getting great recommendations from people and so far so good but I will tell you one thing. When searching for a good book. I DO JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER. Come on, we all do it, just admit it.

Enough of that business, lets discuss the pages in which I have turned.

I recently read "In The Woods" by Tana French. This book is described in Publishers Weekly:

"Irish author French expertly walks the line between police procedural and psychological thriller in her debut. When Katy Devlin, a 12-year-old girl from Knocknaree, a Dublin suburb, is found murdered at a local archeological dig, Det. Rob Ryan and his partner, Cassie Maddox, must probe deep into the victim's troubled family history. There are chilling similarities between the Devlin murder and the disappearance 20 years before of two children from the same neighborhood who were Ryan's best friends. Only Maddox knows Ryan was involved in the 1984 case. The plot climaxes with a taut interrogation by Maddox of a potential suspect, and the reader is floored by the eventual identity and motives of the killer. A distracting political subplot involves a pending motorway in Knocknaree, but Ryan and Maddox are empathetic and flawed heroes, whose partnership and friendship elevate the narrative beyond a gory tale of murdered children and repressed childhood trauma"

I had a hard time getting into this book but once I got past that I was hooked. My roommate told me it was scary so I got excited about reading it but then I realized she didn't really explain her definition of "scary". It sure as hell is nail biting but it does keep you intrigued to read on.
Scary? Not so much.
Suspenseful? Sure.
My review would be (out of 4 stars) - 3 Stars

Currently I am reading "Possible Side Effects" by Augusten Burroughs and its perfect for the mental state I am in right now. I am leaving for vacation in a few days and I am in no state of mind to read anything in which my brain needs to work hard at putting a murder together or kidnapping or anything along those lines. This book is broken up into short stories from his life in no particular order what so ever. I love his writing style.

As stated on his website:

Possible Side Effects

This book is approved for consumption by those seeking pleasure, escape, amusement, enlightenment, or general distraction. This book is not approved to treat disorders such as Ebay addiction or incessant blind dating.

"(H)ilarious, wildly fanciful reminiscences...less spiky than Magical Thinking. It's also more inviting...he makes good, snarky company even with nothing serious in mind...Mr. Burroughs does get away with stunts that would sink more timid writers."
- The New York Times

I will be finishing Possible Side Effects this evening, 5 pages to go, I think I can do it then I plan on starting up "The Time Travelers Wife" I have heard good things about this book and recently watched a trailor for the movie coming out this summer. So I would like to read it before the movie comes out so I can compare the two.
